There can be quite significant consequences if an original will is misplaced or lost. So, for that reason, many people will deposit their original will with a law firm where it’s kept in safe custody. That way, they know that if they move house several times, the original will is somewhere safe.
However, some people (particularly where they have made their own will) will keep it at home. But that’s a big risk because if the original will is misplaced, there is a presumption at law that the person who made the will actually intended it to be revoked or canceled.
As such, it is far safer to deposit your original will with professional safe custody facilities.
